Functional Medicine in Primary Care – Erin Bagshaw, NP

Functional Medicine practices are very popular among nurse practitioners. In today’s episode of the NP Business Matters Podcast, I speak with Erin Bagshaw, NP, who believes the future of primary care is functional medicine.

Erin’s practice was established in 2004 and was the first NP-owned primary care practice in the Washington, DC area. She discusses:

  • the growth and evolution of her practice
  • bringing in specialties
  • transitioning from an insurance-based practice to a fee-for-service practice
  • doing functional medicine the right way.

As a bonus, we have a short discussion of things to ask, especially if a new graduate, during a job interview.

  1. Thanks to you Barbara and Erin. I am presently in FM program and trying to build my telemedicine program starting with hybrid, that is accepting Medicare and cash. I am accepting Medicare because I work with other company where I have to see Medicare patients. I am presently trying to see patients for urgent care problems where virtual care is accepted. I am trying to develop my plan but I do not really want to have a narrow niche to attract patients. I have a real challenge with marketing. I will be sitting my certification exam in February.
