As a practice owner, you know how important it is to have multiple streams of revenue coming into your practice. What’s great about participating in Observational Studies is that they are not dependent on your insurance contracts, levels of visits and the like.
So what are they?
Generally, they are studies that are done aftermarket. It’s not clinical trails and you don’t have to enroll anyone. In fact, you don’t have to do anything different from your normal workflow.
These particular studies have to do with certain lab tests you likely already do during the normal course of a day.
For these observational studies, you keep track of how many patients you see, how many of them need to have and get the lab in question, and if you change any of your treatment based on the results of the lab.
Here are a few details:
- 40% of the patients in your practice should have commercial insurance.
- Patients who are on government plans (Medicare/Medicaid/Tricare/VA) or cash paying cannot participate in these studies.
- These are after-market, observational studies, so there is no “enrolling” of patients, consents and the like.
- Practices located in California or New York are excluded.
