Thanks for hanging in there in the past few weeks since I’ve not updated here. Things have been busy in my practice, at home, and at NPBO. I feel like the days are whizzing by. Can hardly believe it’s nearly mid May!
That said, I’m currently writing up some information on the upcoming Medicare cuts as well as on NPs experience with what appears to be a somewhat shady merchant credit card provider and will have those available to you by Monday.
For those of you who are Mothers…Happy Mother’s Day…

It’s time to spill the beans. For the past few months we have been quietly working behind the scenes on a new site that will allow us several new features…features that you have been telling us you want. While NPBusiness has provided many of you with the tools you have needed, there are just a few things we can not do here, such as:

This past Monday, on Christmas Eve, I was able to give a young woman some wonderful news that she had been anxiously awaiting. She’d had a breast biopsy the previous Thursday. We were closed that Monday, but I knew she would be waiting. So I called the pathologist and then called her. What a gift to be able to tell her the thing everyone was so such was cancer, was indeed not.
This is just one of the reasons I do what I do…for the moments when you ease someones fears and see the tears of joy.
Wishing all of you a happy, joyous season…however you celebrate!

As seems to be tradition for many, it’s that time of year where people write down their goals. Others write down resolutions (which are in my mind smaller steps one takes to getting toward the bigger goals). Either way…we all tend to do this now, with the plan to jump into action on Janaury 1.
Sometimes those goals can seem overwhelming. Here are 10 steps that might help you bring those goals closer to fruition. Continue Reading »

Lots of people talk about developing a cash practice. And with good reason. Having to bill insurance companies, wrangle back and forth with them about payment for covered procedures is a nightmare. Continue Reading »

We’ve gotten such great feedback both here on NPBusiness.ORG and in private emails. There is clearly a need for further information on this topic. You can help shape what future of NPBusiness.ORG by taking part in a short 7 question survey. Be sure and share this link - the more NP’s that participate, the better!
I invite you to make sure you sign up for updates (sign up for the expanded directory if you have not already)…that way you’ll be among the first to see what’s coming over the next several weeks.
Thanks in advance for your particpation!

Happy Anniversary Aberdeen Primary Care
We opened our doors August 1, 2006 and this past year has literally flown by. I’ve learned a lot of good things, and things I could’ve passed on. Either way it has been an incredible learning and growing experience. Continue Reading »

When starting a practice, you are faced with all sorts of fees - licenses (business and professional), liability insurance, startup equipment (clinical and clerical), legal fees, salaries, and the like. You might be tempted to fore go the business insurance…not a good thing to do.
I didn’t…and boy was I glad this morning when I got to the office.

An excellent resource for NP’s in independent practice is Family Practice Management. In the current issue, you’ll find “Efficient Office Design for a Successful Practice“. If you have the opportunity to start with a blank slate, or revamp your current space, you may want to take a look at this. Personally…I love the floor design they are using, and only wish my rooms were the optimal 10X10 they suggest.
