Clinical Refresher
I know, I know…this is a blog about Nurse Practitioners who either want to start or own their own business, so why am I pointing out a clinical resource? Because most of us have clincially related businesses. And as business owners we get busy and don’t always have the time for indepth review or study.
I found “Clinical Cases and Images” when checking out some links from some Nursing Blogs (Emgergiblog is a really good one).
A wonderful resource, Clinical Cases and Images is written by physicians at the Cleveland Clinic or Case Western Reserve University Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Barbara,
Excellent resource. I sincerely appreciate your hard work. I do not know where you get all of your ideas, but you are truly talented, and such an asset to the NP profession and to all of healthcare. We all need these resources. Carla
Thanks for the information once again Barbara! I was wondering if you knew the answer to a protocol question? If you are in independent practice, what does your protocol say? Is it different than the one I posted on my site? Is the doctor still responsible for oversight in your practice or are they just responsible for co-signing your charts. What legality does that entail for the doctor? Sorry so many questions! Thanks for the information!
Those are good questions, and the easy answer is it depends.
I’m in a state where we don’t have protocols, nor are we required to have charts co-signed - we are independent, so I don’t know if I can adequately answer the questions.
As far as protocols, I’d think that they would be the same regardless if you have oversite or not. The way I see it, protocols are a guideline for practice, not a be-all-end-all-recipe for practice.
If I remember correctly, you are in Florida. Check with your board regarding your practice act and state requirements for signatures and oversight. Perhaps someone who is familiar with Florida can chime in here.
Barbara
Carla,
Thanks!!!
