Hearts Made Happy - Health Coaching, NP Style

Published by bcp at 6:51 pm under NP Practice

A recent discussion on the NP List has been about health coaching. This discussion I believe, started with a post about a new “business” called Health Coaching, where the people being trained were non-professionals (I’m sure someone will correct me if this is not correct). And certainly others pointed out that this is what we all do. Interesting as that is how I explain my role to my patients…that I am their coach, and they need to do the work to get healthy or stay healthy.

One NP is working with per patients on just that. Patricia Lawrence, MSN, NP, BC agreed to share her practice brochure. It is a PDF document (you need the Adobe Reader) and can be downloaded here - inside and outside.

Patients need and benefit from health care coaching. The complex treatment protocols patients and family members must negotiate on their own…with limited assistance from home health care is astounding. We know the number of hospitalizations and nursing home admissions due to medication errors is high. Adequate monitoring and coaching could reduce those admissions.
