I got a call this evening from an NP friend of mine who opened her practice in November 2006. She’s been dealing with doing electronic billing with Medicare. She tells me that after months of working with them, doing test runs, etc…they were all ready to do. Now mind you, these test runs were done with Medicare…everyone said it’s a go.

With my list in hand, one of the first things we did was we visited surplus medical supply houses in and around the Seattle area. Believe me there are lots to choose from. If you have the opportunity to start with a blank slate, or revamp your current space, you may want to take a look at this. Personally…I love the floor design they are using, and only wish my rooms were the optimal 10X10 they suggest.

All practices need a system for billing and tracking their income. You really cannot do without it. I know…we tried to use regular accounting software (Quick Books), but it just can’t do what you need it to do. Not in the arena of practice management anyway. And a spread sheet just can’t cut it.
